On September 3, 2025, guest speaker John Shoemaker, an energy services technician with Southern Pine Electric, gave a presentation to students enrolled in the Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engineering, HVACR, and Construction/Carpentry programs.
Shoemaker demonstrated the dangers of playing with electricity and shared practical tips for staying safe and out of harm's way. Students also watched live simulations on the hazards of coming into contact with power lines and learned essential safety practices to avoid dangerous situations.
In addition, the presentation covered how electricity is made and conducted, the importance of conserving energy, and key safety procedures when working around energized lines, appliances, or circuits. The session emphasized both awareness and responsibility, helping students understand how to stay safe while respecting the power of electricity.
